HAYLEYS IN WAR ZONE

Sri Lanka’s Hayleys group said it has re-established its presence in the former northern war zone where it supplied farmers agricultural inputs and advisory services before the conflict.

Hayleys said in a statement it has set up its first-ever group showroom and business center in the northern Jaffna peninsula where life is returning to normal like elsewhere in the war-affected north and east. The ‘World of Hayleys’ outlet will showcase more than 150 products and services and accommodate over 600 stock-keeping units, it quoted Hayleys Group Director Rizvi Zaheed as saying.

“It will also serve as a nucleus for exploring business opportunities and sustainable partnerships such as out-grower programmes which Hayleys have successfully set up in other parts of the country.”

Agricultural produce like gherkins and bananas as well as palmy rah fiber are potential areas currently being explored.

He said Hayleys companies in the agri-inputs sector had maintained links with the farmers of Jaffna even through the times of conflict.
